Coles Bay sits at the foot of the granite mountains known as the Hazards and on the edge of the world-renowned Freycinet National Park and Wineglass Bay. Travelling times are approximately 2 and ½ hours drive from Hobart or Launceston on the east coast of Tasmania.
With a permanent population less than 200, Coles Bay is one of Tasmania's most popular holiday spots for visitors and locals, but it remains a secret to most other Australians and International Visitors.
Nearby Wineglass Bay was voted as one of the top 10 Beaches in the World by a US Magazine together with Friendly Beaches being rated by Getaway (Channel 9) as one of the top 10 beaches in Australia.
Coles Bay's climate is very mild with the town experiencing more than 300 days of sunshine a year, which beats Queensland's Gold Coast!
Coles Bay was the first township in the world to ban the use of plastic bags resulting in International acclaim. This has resulted in a safer environment for wildlife and marine life in the area.
Coles Bay is a mecca for water sports and the gateway to fabulous fishing. Therefore patience is needed when launching and retrieving boats from the boat ramps during busy times. Parking of your boat trailer can also be an issue.

Currently the Glamorgan Council has imposed Stage 3 Water Restrictions on Coles Bay.

Telstra has a Mobile phone tower in Coles Bay resulting in excellent coverage of mobile phone services. Coverage can be patchy the further away from Coles Bay you go, however it is possible to get some coverage as far away as Schouten Island.
